Cooling Off in 100°F Weather

Suki lives in Southern California, where temperatures outside reach 100+ degrees on a daily basis from June - October. We don't have the greatest air conditioner in our apartment, and so it also gets pretty hot inside too. We had to get creative to find a way for her to stay cool.

I found the best way to keep the Suk cool is to spray her with a cool mist of water (IKEA has really cheap water bottles), and then brush her where I just sprayed. After I'm done, she proceeds to clean herself, so in addition to the cool mist, her saliva also cools her fur down.

The only downside to this method... is that the water bottle will no longer be seen as a punishment. When Suki sees the water bottle now, she rolls over onto her back and basically begs for it.

Rolling Around

Whisker City Ceramic Bowls

Aren't these Whisker City ceramic cat bowls adorable! They also wash really easily, which is extremely important to me because I don't have a dishwasher.

I use these bowls only for Suki's wet food. We have larger gallon jugs for water and dry food. I have two of these ceramic bowls so that there is always a clean one ready. The remains of wet food get crusty and gross after a day, so I switch up the bowl often. 

These ceramic bowls are from Petsmart, although they were purchased a while ago so i can't guarantee that they still carry them. They are dark navy blue and feature lighter colored Siamese cats on them.

Belly Up Cat Nap

Suki takes her morning naps usually in this position which my dad calls "playing corpse". It is really hot where we live and we do not have a good air conditioner - so I think this is the best way she can keep cool while she snoozes. Is this a normal pose for a cat or does she have a super flexible spine?

Can't wait for winter to come back so I can get her some new cozy little cat beds! Any recommendations?
